There isn't one that I've never done.

3. Does nature shape our personalities more than nurture? Explain?
Ummm...

4. Friday (February 28th) is 'Something on a Stick Day'... funny because Zoanna over at A Penchant for Pens recently sent me an idea for a question relation to this topic. What's your favorite food eaten on a stick?
Probably corn dogs.

5. Which of your five senses do you treasure most, and why?
Sight. Because I can watch my kiddos grow up.

6. What's the best music, theatre, or sporting venue you've been to? What made it great?

8. Insert your own random thought here.

1. What's the biggest change since your childhood in the way people think or act?
I don't understand this question. :(

2. The Olympic Biathlon involves cross country skiing broken up with either two or four rounds of target shooting. Which part of that would stress you out more? Or would you love them both equally?
I would probably stress over the target shooting.

3. February is National Canned Food Month... What is your most often purchased canned food item? What was in the last can you opened?
Veggies is our most often purchased canned food. Corn was in the last can that I opened.

4. What river (anywhere in the world) would you most like to cruise?
The Nile.

5. It's the middle of the night and you can't sleep... what do you do? Count sheep? Toss and turn? Watch television? Or do you get up and do something productive?

6. How important is keeping your cool?
Ehh...

7. I've got white stuff on the brain so why not run with it? White lie, wave the white flag, white knuckle it, white wash a situation, or white as a sheet... which phrase could most recently apply to your own life in some what?
Wave the white flag.

I am so ready for Spring!

Wednesday Hodgepodge 2.12.14

1. What makes love last?
A sense of humor (or warped, like Chris and mine), a forgiving heart, seeing the best in your other significant rather than all that bothers.

2. The Beatles made their U.S. debut fifty years ago this week. Are you a fan? If so, what's your favorite Beatles tune?
I am, a bit. My favorite tunes are Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds, Let It Be, Hello, Goodbye, and I Want to Hold Your Hand.

3. Valentine's Day-your thoughts? Do you celebrate in any way? Do anything special for the people you love? Expect anything special from the people who love you?
It's really just another day. Another day that people spend money for the special people in their lives. I don't set high expectations for the day. We don't really celebrate much. We've gone out and exchanged cards. We usually get cards for our parents/grandmas. I don't really expect anything special from the people I love. I think a card is plenty. :)

4. Steak or burger...you have to choose? Now that that's settled, how do you like it?
Burger. Well done. No pink!

5. The Hodgepodge lands on the birth-date (February 12th) of Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States of America. Lincoln is quoted as saying, "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test his character give him power." Do you agree? Why or why not?
Agree... Power seems to change people. And not always in the good ways.

6. Honest Abe's picture in on the US penny (1 cent coin) so I'm wondering...what do you do with your pennies (or your country's equivalent)? It's been suggested the US stop making the penny, and two bills have been proposed suggesting just that, but neither were approved. What say you?
I use them when couponing. I don't think that it would bother me much if the penny were to stop being made.

7. Do you think pop culture deserves serious study?
No, not really.

8. Insert your own random thought here-
I wish I were able to watch some of the Olympics. :( But don't want to try to to find everything on-line.

Wednesday Hodgepodge 2.5.14

1. Are we always responsible for our actions? Are there any exceptions?

I think that the healthy adults are always responsible for their actions.

I think when we are talking about the mentally handicapped or individuals with serious mental illnesses have the exception.

2. Has anyone from your home town become famous?

We have a few Olympians. Kristin Armstrong, who won the gold medal in cycling. Jeret Peterson, who won the sliver medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Freestyle Skiing. There are a few others. But I chose these two because of the Olympics. :)

3. January was National Slow Cooker month. Do you own a slow cooker/crock pot? Did you use it last month? What's a favorite dish you make using a slow cooker or crock pot?

I do own a crock pot. And boy, do I love it. I use it at least once a week if not more. :) I think that my favorite dish that I make using my crock pot is my grama's Hamburger Soup. It is to die for, I think.

4. How do you feel about private companies collecting data about you?

I don't think that how I feel matters. :(

5. The Games of the 2014 Winter Olympics kick off with their opening ceremony this coming Friday...will you be watching? Which Winter Olympic event would you most like to see in person? Have you ever been to Russia? Any desire to go, Olympics or otherwise?

I would love to watch. But currently don't have any bunny ears to watch it on my local television channels. :( I think the event that I would most like to see in person is the figure skating and speed skating, maybe even the skiing and snowboarding events. I have never been to Russia. I do have a desire to go. Not necessarily for the Olympics.

6. Share a good or bad sports related memory from your childhood or teen years.

I remember playing softball for many years. I made some really good friends and even had my dad as a coach once or twice, or maybe I played against his team? I also remember taking Jazz Dance with my middle sister. I remember dancing to 'Summer Nights' from Grease.

7. What's a must have song for you on a work out play list? If you don't work out, run, bike, swim, walk, or anything else that could be construed as 'exercise', then what's a song that at least motivates you to get up off the couch?

I think any song that is upbeat.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I hope that me and the kiddos can get over whatever it is that we are fighting. I don't like it when my kiddos aren't feeling well. :(

Wednesday Hodgepodge 1.29.14

1. It's been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?
I don't know if it's true or not. I guess it depends on the day. It's one day closer to the weekend.

2. There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?
I'd probably go, but fake a sore throat if I was asked to sing.

3. January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?
My youngest has been extremely fussy lately. And I wish I knew what was wrong. :(

4. Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?
I like crossword, word search and sudoku. The last time I worked on one coming home from visiting family.

5. Recently a write by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.

What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?

6. What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?
Hmm... I'm not sure.

7. The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th). Which character from his celebrated novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a link to a character list if you need help on this one.
I think I would like to meet the Cheshire Cat or Alice herself.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
We got 7-12 inches of snow overnight/this morning.

Wednesday Hodgepodge 1.22.14

1. It was decided on Sunday the Denver Broncos will meet the Seattle Seahawks in this year's Superbowl. So when was the last time you bowled? Not where you thought this question was going is it? Do you like to bowl? Are you any good?
It was probably about a month ago. I do enjoy to bowl. I think it is fun. It was especially fun this last time because Lyric took a turn of mine and Chris' and bowled for us each round. It was fun to watch her pick up the ball and walk to the ramp and push it down the ramp. I don't think that I am great, but I'm not bad either. :)

2. Should sports stars be role models?
I think so.

3. January is National Oatmeal month... are you a fan? How do you like your oats?
I am. And so are both of my kiddos. I prefer my oats sweet! Really sweet!

Hmm... I have quite a few books that I want to read this year. I think the ones at the top of my list are the Pretty Little Liars series.

5. What would you like your future self to say to your present self?
Hmm... I've got no idea.

6. When scrolling through the TV guide, what is one movie title that makes you want to stop, grab the popcorn, and watch for a while?
Anything by Nicholas Sparks, Harry Potter, and Twilight or romantic movies :)

7. What are two style trends you hope never come back into fashion?
Hmm... I'm not quite sure.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Wednesday Hodgepodge 1.15.14

1. Are you a force to be reckoned with? In what way?
I'm not sure I know how to answer this question...

2. What are two things you love about the wintertime? Or, if loves feels like too strong a word, what are two things you 'like' about winter?
I love almost everything about wintertime. I love the Christmas season and all the lights and decorations that come along with the season. I love the first snowfall, the scenery of untouched snow, and the snow on the trees

3. Pomegranate, kumquat, persimmon, kiwi, and guava are all fruits said to have health benefits, particularly during the winter months. Do you have a favorite on the list? Are there any on the list you haven't tried?
I don't think that I have come across a fruit that I haven't liked. Yea, there are some that I like more than others. From the fruits listed I don't think I have tried kumquat or persimmon fruit and of those listed the one that I like most is kiwi.

4. I passed a local church yesterday and noticed they had this on their outdoor sign- 'When all else fails, do the right thing.' Your thoughts?
This question has me stumped. I don't know how to answer it. I think that you should do the right thing, no matter what.

5. Do you ski? According to one list I've seen, the top 5 ski destinations for 2014 are- St Anton Austria, Whistler Canada, Cortina Italy, Tahoe USA, and Zermatt Switzerland. Of the five listed, which would you most like to visit? We can make skiing optional if that helps the non-skiers with their answer.
I ski, but I haven't been skiing in years. I love to ski. My Uncle John actually introduced me to skiing. We used to go every winter. I would like to visit any of these places to ski. Skiing is skiing I think. I'm not one to do the extreme hills or the crazy ones. I like to just ski to ski and enjoy my time.

6. What's the last thing you looked for online? (Besides my blog!)
The last thing that I looked for online was the update about the missing Navy Pilot from the helicopter crash that happened here in Virginia Beach last Wednesday.

7. What saying, slogan, quote, or motto have you seen lately that inspires you for the new year?
"Tomorrow, is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one.
-Brad Paisley

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I can't imagine the pain that the family of the Navy Pilot is going through. I don't know how I would be able to cope. My thoughts and my prayers are with the family at this time.

Wednesday Hodgepodge 1.8.14

Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse or just general uselessness (go here to read more about how the words were chosen.) Here are the words/phrases they'd like to see banished in 2014-

selfie, twerk/twerking, hashtag, Twittersphere, Mr. Mom, T-bone, _____on steroids, the suffixes -ageddon, and -pocalypse added to anything and everything, from the world of politics the words -intellectually/morally bankrupt and Obamacare, and from the world of sports the words -adversity and fan base

Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add?
Twerk/twerking and hashtag.

2. What on unfinished project nags at you begging to be completed in this new year?
Get my mirrors and candles re-hung on my dinning room walls. It's been a few months since I have taken them down to mount the t.v.

3. When did you last have a bowl of soup? What kind? Homemade or from a can? What's your favorite soup?
I made Hamburger soup for dinner on Monday, and we are going to have leftovers of it for dinner tonight. It is homemade with lots of fresh vegetables and some hamburger mixed in. I put more veggies than I do anything else. I think that Hamburger soup is my favorite. I got the recipe from my Grama.

4. Snowed in, snowed under, snow job... which one most applies to your life in recent days, figuratively speaking.
Snow job.

5. What's the funniest movie you've ever seen, or at least one of the funniest?
I think the Shrek movies are some of the funniest ones. I've seen Frozen a few times and their are parts in the movie that make me laugh out loud.

6. In general, would you say you're clumsy?
Maybe a little.

7. Elvis Presley was born on Hodgepodge Day (January 8th) back in 1935. Are you an Elvis fan? What's your favorite Elvis tune? If that's too hard, which Elvis tune to you dislike the least? Click here for a list of his songs.
I don't think that I would say that I am an Elvis fan. I don't mind him and his music. I actually like a few songs. "Can't Help Falling in Love" is my all time favorite.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I wouldn't mind for our weather to start heating up again. It's been pretty cold. We actually have had to run the heater a few times. This is the coldest it has been in a while.

Wednesday Hodgepodge 1.1.14

Hodgepodge Questions Volume Brand New Year

Happy New Year!

1. Times Square is the setting for the infamous ball drop signaling the start of a brand new year... when did you last 'drop the ball' on something?
I can't remember the last time that I 'dropped the ball' on something.

2. What is one thing you resolved to do in 2013 that you actually did?
We got Lyric potty trained. At least when we are at home. We are still working on the part when we are out and about. There are times when she tells us that she has to go, so we are getting closer.

3. Jack London is quoted as saying, "You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club." Agree or disagree? Why?
I think that I fall in the middle on this one.
I've had instances where I was inspired by something or someone when I wasn't looking to be inspired. And then there are other times when I feel that I need to go looking for inspiration.

4. What was the best thing you ate in 2013?
Wow! Tough question! I think that it would have to be Chris' grandma's pink goo/fluff whatever it is they call it. I loved it when we had it on the Fourth of July. I even made it for Christmas.

5. Share an anti-resolution... that is, something you plan to keep on doing in the new year?
adfk

6. The Pantone color of the year for 2014 is radiant orchid. Like or no like? Would I find this color anywhere in your home or wardrobe? Will you add something in this shade to either?
I don't mind the color. I like it. But, I don't think that you will find this color in my house, but there is a chance that you could find it in my closet.

7. In three words or less, sum up your 2013.
Family, Love!, Growing

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Happy New Year! I hope this year is as good as the last.
